Introducing the ski-spa resort

Tuesday, 26 February 2013 9:00 Europe/London

In the past few years spas have become more and more integral to the ski holiday to the extent that leading ski hotels have now become ski-spa resorts.  That’s great news for skiers who now get to wind-down after an energetic day on the slopes in some of the world’s leading spas, but it does mean you have to rethink your packing a little! Even if you’re not going to a fully-fledged ski-spa resort most ski hotels now have some kind of sauna or steam room so if you’re off to slopes don’t forget your swimwear.  Below are 3 of the most luxurious ski-spa resorts in the world:

1) Copperhill Mountain Lodge, Sweden

The telegraph nominated Copperhill Mountain Lodge as the best place to ski-spa in Sweden.  Located in the heart of one of Europe’s largest skiing areas in Are.

The spa won a European Hotel design award for its beautiful design, inspired by local heritage.  It boasts indoor and outdoor hot springs, as well as eight treatment rooms and all the usual mod-cons of a contemporary spa.  The relaxation area offers panoramic views of mount Areskutan.   If you’re an adrenaline addict as well as a spa fan then this is the place for you.  The hotel offers heliskiing from right outside the hotel as well as dog sledding, paragliding, ziplining and ice driving.

2) The Green Leaf Niseko Village, Japan

If you want to go somewhere further afield for your skiing experience this year then why not consider Japan?  Niseko village is considered a premier ski destination with consistently excellent conditions year in, year out.  The resort offers fantastic off-piste powder and an authentic insight into Japanese culture, resisting an especially touristy vibe.

The spa at green leaf is stunning and includes an onsen (Japanese for natural spring) which makes it really stand out.  The onsen water comes out of the ground at 53.2 degrees and is caooled to 40 degrees before entering the bath.  Take a soak in the onsen and you’ll benefit from the natural salts in the water and look out on Mt, Yotei, the Mt Fuji of Hokkaido.  You can also take part in therapeutic sessions in the onsen.

3) Alpina Dolomites Gardena Health Lodge & Spa

If you looking for an ultra-contemporary, gorgeously designed hotel and spa which isn’t too far from home then the Alpina Dolomites Gardena Health Lodge & Spa will suit.  The Dolomites are notorious for great skiing with Europe’s largest high-altitude plateau a constant attraction.   The hotel sits on this plateau, on the slopes of the Dolomiti Superski circuit.  Not only will you have immediate access to fantastic skiing then, but you’ll also be able to benefit from one of the best ski-spa resorts in Europe.

The spa offers treatments which focus on your “over wellness: new holistic treatments, multiple-day personalised health and wellness programs, top quality cosmetic products and relaxing beauty treatments.”  It offers a panoramic indoor and outdoor swimming pool with breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains.

These are just a few of the ski-spa resorts on offer throughout the world.
